THIRD NATIONAL PATIENT DOSE SURVEY IN DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGY FOR UPDATING OF BULGARIAN DIAGNOSTIC REFFERENCE LEVELS – DRL2016

In correspondence with requirements of National legislation and requirements of EC Directive 2013/59/Euratom, National Centre of Radiobiology and Radiation Protection (NCRRP) started the Third National patient dose survey with an aim to update the existing Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRL) in Radiology.

The data for the survey will be delivered on special forms for X-ray equipment and patient dose registration, elaborated by NCRRP.

Four methods for providing data to NCRRP are made available:

• via internet based SYSTEM (drl-bg.com);
• via special electronic tables sent to the e-mail of the survey: patientdose@ncrrp.org (see download links for electronic tables in .xls format bellow);
• via supply of information about local typical doses elaborated recently in radiology sites;
• via paper hard copy (this method is not encouraged).

Two national dose surveys were completed since 2002 in which data collection was performed manually by filling paper forms for each facility and further data processing and analysis by the NCRRP. According to the Ordinance No. 30 of MoH/2005, all fluoroscopy and stationary radiography equipment have to be equipped with kerma-area product (KAP) meters and patient doses have to be recorded and kept in electronic or paper format. All newly installed CT scanners have dose displays and records of patient doses are required to be kept.

The Third National Patient Dose Survey to update Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs) started in June 2016 by the NCRRP in accordance with requirements of Ordinance No. 30 of MoH/2005.
