MOLECULAR RADIOBIOLOGY AND PROFILAXIS LABORATORY
- Monitoring of population exposed to low dose ionizing radiation to identify radiation-induced DNA and cellular damages by molecular, biochemical and immunochemical techniques:
– DNA damage and repair;
– Changes in protein synthesis;
– Overexpression of heat shock proteins;
– Detection of cell viability; – ROS determination.
- Testing natural and chemical radioprotective substances.
- Education of PhD and postgraduate students in radiobiology.

RADIATION GENETICS LABORATORY
- Biodosimetry in radiation incidents by conventional cytogenetic and FISH. Unique reference laboratory for biological dosimetry in Bulgaria.
- Systematic surveillance of persons occupationally exposed to low dose radiation exposure for genetic damage assessment by application of regular cytogenetic monitoring by chromosomal aberrations, micronuclei, sister chromatid exchanges and by molecular cytogenetic techniques (FISH) and DNA analysis of marker genes.
- Fetal exposure risk assessment during pregnancy.
- Education of PhD and postgraduate students in radiobiology.
